Shiney Rashmitha ChandragantiShiney, in her undergraduate worked on studying the effect of different optimum concentration of substrates on the performance of Microbial Fuel Cells and their performance through electron transfer activity under Prof. Radha Rani Mewaram, Assistant Professor at MNNIT. Shiney interested in Environment Biotechnology, Shiney did a Summer Internship in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG). She was mentored by Dr. Lalit Pandey, Associate Professor, IITG on a research project at IITG which is published in Letters of Applied NanoBioScience, an international journal. The study is “Synthesis and characterization of methyl acrylamide cellulose nanowhiskers for environmental applications.” Her final year thesis under Dr.Shivesh Sharma was on “Computational studies to identify potential inhibitors of Type II secretion system in pathogenic bacteria.” We used various computational tools to identify potential drug candidates that can bind and inhibit T2SS of gram-negative bacteria. Further, the pharmacokinetics and toxicity of the identified drug candidates can be predicted for their application in preventing bacterial infections. During her Masters in NYU, she worked as research assistant in The Schluter Lab where she researched and studied the research gaps about Quorum Sensing communication systems in the selected gut bacteria and extracted DNA from Lymphoma patients for the evaluation of the intestinal microbiome and immune infections in the patients. Later, her work in The Khanna’s lab includes cryosectioning murine and human tissue samples, and performed multiplex immunofluorescence staining that was visualized using a Keyence epifluorescence microscope. Analysing images using ImageJ and Imaris image analysis software to quantify immune cell populations and characterize interaction dynamics.
Research Interest: Cancer Research, Environmental Biotechnology, Molecular Microbiology, Immunology, Synthesis and use of nanoparticles in diagnostics and bioremediation. Fun Fact: In free time, Shiney likes to explore the city with her roommates trying out new cuisines occasionally. She likes to watch movies a lot in theatres so pretty much watch almost every movie that’s been released. Hometown: Andhra Pradesh, India BTech, Biotechnology – Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, Praygraj , UP, India (2020) MS, Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship – New York University (graduating May 2023) |
